Composition – The golden mean
I was out shooting the other weekend, with just my Nikon FM, 50mmF/1.4 and a roll of Neopan 400. I was out for lunch with the family, walking around the Kangaroo point area near Brisbane city.
I found this metal vertical spire which climbs about 10m has an interesting twist as it climbs vertically I was able to position myself inside the spire and shoot up looking towards the sky. I opted to let the sky blow out in preference to have the inside metal frame work correctly exposed.
I played around with the composition for a little before settling on this framing, obviously inspired by the Golden Mean. Not something I actively pursue hopefully it’s something that becomes second nature when you piece together a scene in your minds eye.
I like to think that everyday shooting is another days of training for your photographic eye.
